Few compact shrubs offer the wildlife value of Seeing Stars. Selected at the University of Idaho, this compact deerberry forms a low-maintenance planting well suited to informal shrub borders or open woodlands. Glaucous blue-green foliage in spring and summer transitions to a rich maroon-red and deep purple in fall. White to green star-shaped flowers, sometimes tinged pink, bloom in late spring and are a magnet for pollinators. They give way to yellow, pear-shaped berries that ripen to purple by late summer and fall, offering a valuable food source for birds and wildlife.
