Success Starts With Soil

Happidaze™ Sweetgum is bred to deliver all the drama of fall color while significantly reducing the messy gum-ball seed clusters that are a nuisance under regular sweetgums. The foliage is dark green and star-shaped, providing a lush summer canopy. In youth its growth form is pyramidal, and as the tree matures it develops an oval-rounded crown. The bark matures to become rugged and ridged, adding winter interest.

Growing Tips for Liquidambar styraciflua 'Happidaze™'

Plant Happidaze™ in full sun for best foliage color and shape. It prefers medium, moist, well-drained soil, though it is fairly tolerant of different soil types so long as drainage is decent. In the colder limits of Zone 5 it may need protection or a sheltered site for best reliability. It has very few seed balls, cleanup is greatly reduced. Water regularly during establishment, and mulch to retain moisture. Occasional pruning may be needed to maintain form and remove any damaged or weak branches.
